My passions and interests.
- BIKING (sorry, not the motorized type; just pedal
powered!) Mountain biking happens to be my greatest passion,
but I'm pretty close to rating road biking just as highly. I
spend more time on one or the other at different times of
the year. I do very little on the road bike in the coldest 3
months or so of the winter, but I make up for that in the
hottest part of the summer. I'm blessed to live in an area
that offers incredibly varied and plentiful access to
trails. Douthat State Park is about 8 miles away, and has
been my steady friend for many years. I ride there more than
anywhere else, but often branch out from there to the
surrounding national forest trails. The park has over 40
miles of awesome singletrack trails, and the national forest
adds much more, so I have lots to choose from. I grew up in
NH and never did anything but road riding there, but when I
took up biking again in my early 30's, it was mainly doing
gravel roads on a Roadmaster MTB, as mountain bikes were
usually referred to then.
- I soon discovered true singletrack
trails and accordingly better equipped bikes, and then got
into mountain bike racing in 1998 when a race came to
Douthat State Park, my "home field." I rediscovered road
riding that year as well, when my newfound racing buddies
told me I had to get a road bike if I really wanted to be
competitive on the mountain bike. They were right, and my
passion for the road has increased every year. Nonetheless,
I am still most at home in the woods, climbing a long ascent
for a rewarding ridgetop ride, followed by an awesome
descent. Oh, and by the way, GO FLOYD LANDIS!! WIN THE
TOUR de FRANCE!!! (with PANACHE, the French press
notwithstanding!) Update: You 'da man, Floyd! GREAT WIN!
- (Now, are we going to be disappointed to find that you
cheated to do it? The jury is still out, as far as I'm
concerned, but I have no respect for those who cheat for an
advantage. All things in perspective, it's still just a
race. Win or lose fairly, be thankful for the gifts God has
given you, and respect the gifts others have received and
the efforts they have made to compete.)
- For biking needs in the Wolfeboro Area, the
Nordic Skier can
set you up, send you out, or just help you find out just how
much fun it is to take yourself almost anywhere you want to
go, under your own power, on two wheels. "Ain't much
better'n a bike ride!"
